Details: Penguin Pottery's Best Mix Five with Grog clay is similar to our Best Mix Five. It has a smooth porcelain texture that will fill you with joy as you throw it or work it with your hands. The grog makes it a much more forgiving clay, plus a bit of texture and speckling. When fired it will have a cream color. Specifications: Cone: 5 Wet Color: light grey Firing Color: off-white Texture: slightly coarse Shrinkage: 11% Our clays are designed to be fired in a pottery kiln. It can be thrown on a wheel, sculpted, or used in hand building. It can be used and reused over and over again, until it gets fired in a kiln. A regular home over won’t get hot enough to cure this clay into a hard ceramic form. To keep your clay soft and pliable, always wrap tightly in plastic and if necessary you can always use a spray bottle to spritz water onto the clay to reabsorb and stay moist. Once you want to keep what you’ve made and make it permanent, let it dry completely before you fire it in a kiln. Ideally you should bisque fire your pieces before you paint glaze on them. We recommend cone 04 (1945 degrees Fahrenheit) but you can also have success bisque firing to cone 05 or cone 06.
